Fatimah Zurina Mohamad

Fatimah Zurina Mohamad is a Principal Assistant Director at Nutrition Division, Ministry of Health. Responsible in managing nutrition programs/ activities related to the prevention and intervention of overweight and obesity in schools, community and workplace. Has vast experience as nutritionist working at groundwork, planning, developing and implementing various program/ activities in order to educate and build awareness of individuals or families on the principles of ideal nutrition to improve health and have good quality of life. She worked closely with other stakeholders including relevant ministries and government agencies, research institutions, academia, professional bodies, non-government organizations, food industries, parents, teachers and community related to food and nutrition. For her major contributions in the Field of Nutrition, she was involved in the Implementation of Excise Tax on Sugar-Sweetened Beverages in Malaysia as a hard policy to combat overweight and obesity in Malaysia. She also a coordinator for weight management program at workplace; a six months weight loss program for overweight and obese worker comprising of 3 main components; intervention of healthy eating, intervention of exercise and self-motivation. Besides, she also involved in the program that empowered Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) to establish healthy and productive children by acculturation healthy lifestyle. The strategy used is to increase the knowledge and awareness of parents and teachers about the importance of healthy eating and physical activity and translate the knowledge gained into practice and culture of healthy eating and physical activity continuously in school and outside school.
