Dr. Mohd Ismail Noor is an Emeritus Professor in Nutrition, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia where he served for 35 years. His major research interest includes energy requirements, energy balance, obesity, nutritional status of selected population groups including sports nutrition. He has published more than 150 scientific papers/reports locally and internationally. He was a member, WHO consultation on obesity, WHO, Geneva, 1997, Member, FAO/WHO/UNU Expert Consultation on Energy in Human Nutrition, FAO, Rome, 2001, Member, WHO Expert consultation on appropriate BMI for Asian populations and its implications for policy and intervention strategies, Singapore, July 2002. He was the Council member, International Union of Nutritional Sciences IUNS (1997-2001), Secretary, Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies-FANS (1991-1993), President, FANS (1993-1995), Immediate Past-President, Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies FANS (1995-1999), Executive Council FANS (2000-present). He was the Founding Secretary, Asia-Oceania Association for the study of Obesity AOASO (1998-2002), Vice-President AOASO (2002-2006), President AOASO (2014-2018) and Secretary, IASO (2010-2014) and President of ICO 2014, held from 17-20 March 2014 in Kuala Lumpur. He is the Chairman, TWG on Nutritional Guidelines, NCCFN (1994-2024). He was President, Nutrition Society of Malaysia (1994-1996), Vice-President, Nutrition Society of Malaysia (1996—2020), President, Malaysian Association for the Study on Obesity (1996-2021). He was instrumental in establishing the Malaysian Journal of Nutrition and become the first Chief Editor (1995-1999), Chief Editor, Recommended Nutrient Intakes (RNI) for Malaysia (2005 & 2017 and Chief Editor, Malaysian Dietary Guidelines (2010 and 2020). For his contributions in the field of Nutrition, he was awarded, the Fellow, Nutrition Society of Malaysia, FNSM (2000), Fellow, Malaysian Oil Scientists’ and Technologists’ FMOSTA (2002), Fellow, Malaysian Scientific Association, FMSA (2003), Fellow, International Union of Nutritional Sciences, FIUNS (2005) Fellow, Academy of Sciences Malaysia, FASc (2006), Emeritus Professor in Nutrition UKM (2014), Foreign Correspondent, Academy of Medicine, France (2017) and the Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies (FANS) Lifetime Achievement Award (2023).
